Ahhhhhhhh
So excited to be seeing this view again!! Ahhhh, how I've missed it. Fleck too. We both enjoyed our ride. It was great to just get out and stretch our legs and explore. We left Dan at home today because the weather was icky and I only had so much time. We had fun and just enjoyed each others company.
And I timed it perfectly. As we were untacking I noticed a few raindrops on my saddle. By the time I was putting his sheet back on (because yes.. it got COLD in April... so cold that I was wearing fleece breeches!) and loading him up, the skies opened up and it started to downpour. But we got our ride in. :)

Making it happen
So... today was a tough day. I was just feeling very frustrated and incompetent. But then, Mike said the magic words... "Just go ride your horse". I had taken the truck to get the oil changed so I couldn't GO anywhere. I decided to ride anyways and just ride at home. Yes, we're only walking and there aren't any fun trails, but... we could do lateral work. So we did. Bareback! I tacked up and we walked the fenceline at first (partly to check for damage from all the bad weather but mostly to try to find Dan's shoes!). We actually had a great ride and I rode for much longer than I thought I would. We did about 30 solid minutes of flat work - leg yield, shoulder in, renvers (Or travers... I can't ever remember which is which), spiral in, spiral out, turn on the forehand, turn on the haunches. I tried to ride him almost like he was Dan. I thought it couldn't hurt to ride him without relying on the reins and worrying about a headset and ride him more from the leg and seat. It didn't go badly, so... :)
Then we did a tiny bit of hill work and then headed back to the barn. It was a good day. And it fixed my day. :) Ahhhh.... love my big guy.

Oh HAPPY day!!!
So....Fleck has been feeling great. And my magic sticks haven't been moving hardly at all recently over his butt injury. And then I talked to Dr. Brown about bringing him in next week to ultrasound again. He said that if he stops moving the sticks, there really isn't a NEED to ultrasound him again. But we could if I wanted to. So of course, I heard "once the sticks stop moving, get to riding"! And... they didn't move on Thursday or Friday. Or Saturday, so.... since it was SUCH a gorgeous day... I played hookie from the paso show early and went to ride. I decided that even if we don't have the ultrasound proof, he wasn't moving the sticks AND we would just walk for 2 weeks anyways. So we went for a ride. I took both boys. And they were both HORRIBLE. And it was still the BEST DAY EVER!!
Oh man it felt so good to be back on Flecky again. Despite his antics. :) I rode him first and he started out pretty well. For about 5 minutes. :) Then he was anxious to get to the other horses he knew were out there and was jigging and trotting. But he was sound. :) So I managed to keep him wrangled in mostly and we eventually jigged our way to the lake where his friends were.
We played in the lake for about 20 minutes. And oh man did Fleck miss the lake! He splashed and played and splashed some more. And his friends splashed! It was a grand time. I was soaking wet. Lake fun

So then I took him back and they went the other way. And Fleck was horrid. He kept tossing his head and threatening to bolt. And jigging. He wouldn't even graze. So... I tried to get a bit more of a ride, but eventually gave up and headed back to the trailer. And his Dan. Who he then bit. ;)
But it's okay because I GOT TO RIDE FLECK AGAIN!!!!!

Hopefully he'll behave better and we can get some more serious fitting up work going. And hopefully this blasted 10 day forecast of rain will change and we can accomplish some riding. And hopefully he'll stay sound and happy :) :)
Oh HAPPY day!

ARGH!!!
So.... Flecky isn't healed yet. :( Man!!!!!
Surprisingly though, I'm not quite as despondent as I thought I might be. I guess because it has been so long. And I've been busy. And Danny's been fun. But I do miss him. He seems to be enjoying his vacation too. I'm sure it's good for him.
But ARGH!! I would really like to get back on him soon. The good news is that he IS healing, and properly. And it's getting closer. But not quite yet. I'm hoping that it's only another few weeks, but it could easily be another 6. :( :(
Oh well... It is what it is.
And her certainly seems to feel good :)
